hard time

Four months of hard time in the boatyard was not really the plan for Elixir year 1, but we're okay with it. To distract from our slow progress here are some photos of Tatsao, the Haida 26 we had for 12 years.

as bought in Port of Everett.
a few years later in Mystery Bay.

me with hose and no idea about what I got us into.
keel as bought.
peeling our paint off the keel the second time.

fixing the rot in the cockpit, adding bigger cockpit drains.
fixing rot in deck around stays.
shot from the bow.
hauling out.

a favorite after shot.
getting the hang of cruising, including everything in place.
flying spinnaker up East Sound of Orcas Island.
cockpit spaghetti while flying spinnaker.
screen shot from a great day from the San Juan Islands through Deception Pass at slack tide at lower left, through channel and then lucky straight shot under sail close hauled to one of our favorite stops, Coupville.
postcard I wrote to Jarred's parents from our first cruise to the San Juan Islands, in Friday Harbor, on behalf of the red inflatable dinghy we borrowed from them.

on the bus from marina to Hummingbird Cafe in Gulf Islands.
"racing" one of the local punk kids in light wind in the Gulf Islands.
I happened to get my hair cut and styled the day before we left, now 1.5 days into vacation.
on the hook and stern tie at cocktail hour in Conover Cove.
in a cave at Sucia Island. I had read about these caves for a couple of years.

racing gently off Edmonds.
right after the start of a race off of Edmonds.
racing off Edmonds again.
cruising somewhere.

at anchor as committee boat for a local race. There were two identical captains hats in the committee boat equipment stash that we'd never seen in use and we each wore one, creating a stir amongst competitors.
